Tour Itinerary
Day 1: UZBEKISTAN, Arrival in Tashkent
Arrival and check-in: arrive at Tashkent International Airport with Turkish Airlines at 2:00 AM or other. You’ll be greeted and transferred to hotel for early check-in.
Kick off the afternoon with a sightseeing tour of Tashkent – we shall visit Old City, see the Barak Khana seminary, the Tilla Shaikh archives – containing the oldest copy of the Usman Koran (7th c. AD). Later proceed to the Kukeldesh madrassah, the Akbar’s pottery house, the Friendship Square, and the History Museum. In the evening we will attend a performance in the Navoi Theatre (season in Sep-May).

Day 2: Tashkent – Samarkand
In the morning we shall depart by fast and comfortable train to Samarkand.
On arrival transfer to hotel. We shall proceed to Gur Emir, a beautiful mausoleum of Tamerlane in the best of tile work. Later visit the Registan Square to see the sun setting among beautiful Madrassahs. Later we shall see ‘Son et Lumiere’ show in one of the madrassahs.

Day 3: Samarkand
Spend the day exploring Samarkand, one of the most beautiful cities of Central Asia. Visit Reghistan square – ensemble of majestic madrasahs, Bibi Khanum Mosque – the gigantic congregational mosque, once one of the Islamic world’s biggest mosque, and Siab Market – colorful main farmers’ market.
Explore Shakhi Zinda – necropolis of Samarkand rulers and nobles. Visit Ulugbek Observatory – the remains of an immense astrolabe for observing star position, part of three-storey observatory. Visit Afrosiab complex and Museum of Regional Studies.

Day 4: Samarkand – Shahrisabz – Bukhara
Morning: departure for Bukhara. En route visit Shahrisabz, the birthplace of Tamerlane. We shall see the Ak-Saray Palace ruins, the Dorus Tilavat, the Kok Gumbaz mosque, the Dorus Saidat and the Friday mosques.
In the afternoon continue to Bukhara. On arrival transfer to hotel.

Day 5: Bukhara
After breakfast, explore the ancient city of Bukhara. Begin with the Poi Kalon Ensemble, featuring the Mir-I-Arab Madrassah and the Kalon Minaret, a symbol of the city for 875 years. Visit 3 domed bazaars, which were among dozens of specialized bazaars in the town. Explore the Lyabi Hauz Ensemble, built around in 1620, and its nearby madrasahs.
Afternoon: visit Ark Fortress, Bolo Hauz Mosque, the Ismoil Samani Mausoleum, and Chashma Ayub (Spring of Job). In the evening, enjoy dinner with a traditional folk show at Nadir Devon Begi Madrasah, showcasing music, dance, and local cuisine.

Day 6: Bukhara – Khiva
After breakfast at the hotel proceed to Khiva (480 km) by road across Kyzul Kum (Red Sand Desert), the same route taken by loaded Silk Road camel caravans. Stop on the way for an open-air coffee break with oriental sweet table and dried fruits.
Lunch at Sunnat’s place – “Kyzylkum” chaykhana or other restaurant. The place gives a chance to take a look at the Amu Darya River, which used to be called the Oxus, and loosely parallels the Uzbek-Turkmen border. Arrive in Khiva and accommodate in hotel.

Day 7: Khiva
Full day sightseeing tour of Khiva. Begin the tour visiting iconic sites such as the Mohammed Amin Khan Madrassah and the Kelte Minor Minaret in Ichan Kala. Explore the Kunya Ark, a 12th-century fortress and residence of Khiva’s rulers. Continue to the Pakhlavan Mahmud Mausoleum, renowned for its intricate tilework and sere courtyard. After lunch, visit Islam Khoja Madrassah and Minaret, and the Juma Mosque, known for its 213 wooden pillars.
In the afternoon, free walks in the walled city.

Day 8: TURKMENISTAN, Khiva – Kunya-Urgench – Dashoguz – Ashgabat
After breakfast, depart for the Turkmen-Uzbek border. After the formalities, proceed to Kunya-Urgench (Old Urgench) to see the former capital of the Khorezmshah Empire (100 km). We will see the mausoleum of Turabeg Khanum, the highest medieval minaret of Kutlug Timur, the mausoleum of Sultan Tekesh, and the mausoleum of Il-Arslan, the founder of the pre-Mongol Khorezmshah empire. We will also visit a cosy museum in Kunya-Urgench, the displays of which are located in khujras (prayer cells) of the former madrasah.
After dinner, we continue to Dashoguz to take a flight to Ashgabat. On arrival transfer to hotel.

Day 9: Ashgabat
After breakfast, full day sightseeing tour of Ashgabat. Begin at the State Museum of History and Ethnography to explore ancient artifacts, then travel to the UNESCO-listed ruins of Old Nisa, the former capital of the Parthian Empire, set against the scenic Kopetdag Mountains.
Visit an impressive complex in Kipchak village to see the biggest mosque of Turkmenistan “the Spiritual Mosque of Turkmenbashi” and “the family mausoleum of the first president”. Enjoy panoramic city views from the Palace of Happiness. Continue along Archabil Highway to see the Magtymguly monument, ending at Independence Park and the monumental buildings. After dinner, transfer to hotel.

Day 10: Ashgabat – Mary
Breakfast at the hotel and drive to the Geokdepe stud farm to see the legendary Akhal-Teke horses, famed for their speed, endurance, and shimmering coats, with opportunities to ride, feed, and photograph them. The area is also historically significant as the site of the fortress that was the site of a battle during the Great Game in 1881, as well as the Geokdepe Mosque, built in memory of those events.
Visit the Ashgabat Carpet Museum to discover the artistry and symbolism of Traditional Turkmen carpet making art (included in UNESCO, the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity), from the tiniest keychain carpet to the world’s largest handmade masterpiece.
In the evening, we catch a flight to Mary (40 min). On arrival transfer to hotel and dinner.

Day 11: Mary – Ashgabat
After breakfast, we will drive 40 mins to Bayramali and have the unforgettable opportunity of visiting Ancient Merv Historical Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site). With the magnificent Mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar and the Gyz-Gala fortress, two of Islamic Architecture’s grandest monuments, Merv is by far Turkmenistan’s most recognized heritage site. It impresses with its vast size of over 2,000 ha and comprises of 5 different city-sites from 3 millenniums.
Ancient Merv Historical Park includes ancient cities Erk-Kala and Gyaur-Kala, medieval cities Sultan Kala, Abdullakhan-Kala and Bayramalikhan-Kala, the oldest of still standing corrugated mud-brick palaces – Great and Little Gyz Kalas, mausoleums of Sultan Sanjar and Muhammad ibn Zaid, and tombs of the Profet’s companions, Askhabs, and some others.
Late afternoon: transfer to Mary Airport for a flight to Ashgabat and check in at hotel.
