Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Ashgabat/Arrival – Turkmenabat (flight) – Koyten village
Arrival at Ashgabat International Airport with Turkish Airlines or other. Meet your guide and connect your flight to Turkmenabat, departing at 6:10 (with T5-171). Arrive in Turkmenabat at 7:00. Upon arrival, transfer to Koyten village in the Turkmenistan’s Far East. On the way, visit the Astana Baba and Alamberdar Mausoleum Complex. Be prepared for a long drive of about 10 hours (430 km) by 4×4 vehicle. Lunch at a road-side café.
Arrive in Koyten village late in the evening and check in at Tourist Base Camp.
Camp-style dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 2: Koytendag
After breakfast, explore the Dinosaur Plateau in Hojepil village, the Kyrk Gyz cave, and the Umbar Dere Gorge. While exploring the dinosaur fossils you can time travel thousands of years back to the times of dinosaurs and picture how dinosaurs tried to escape the fire in the lowlands and ran up the hill through already cooling lava leaving deep footprints behind.
Lunch in Hojapil village.
Visit Kyrk Gyz, a shrine where many pilgrims have attached pieces of cloth to the ceiling in hopes of having their wishes granted. Then walk along a short trail through the narrow Umbar Dere Gorge to the beautiful waterfall. Return to the Tourist Base for a camp-style dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Koytendag
Breakfast at the camp. Today we will be exploring the rest of the village, Kainar Baba Lake – with unique hydrogen sulfide spring and rare “invisible” fish, Uch Dogan – Platan tree with is core fitting more than 10 people and Palwan Dash – a gigantic stone which was lifted by local legendary weightlifter, weighting more than 550 kg.
The rest of the day we have a master class in cooking “tamdyrlama” the village is known for.
Return to the camp for overnight.
Day 4: Koytendag – Turkmenabat (ca. 400 km, about 9-10 hour drive)
Breakfast at the camp and transfer to Turkmenabat, 9-10 hour drive. Lunch stop in Kerki city or road-side café.
Arrive in Turkmenabat at late aftertoon. Rest of the day is free at your own lisure.
Dinner and overnight in Turkmenabat.
Day 5: Turkmenabat – Ashgabat (flight)
Take the breakfast boxes form the hotel, check out and transfer to the airport for a morning flight to Ashgabat, departing at 8:00. Arrival at 8:50.
Today we will have a sightseeing tour of Ashgabat. The name of the city is translated from Persian as “the City of Love”. We begin the city tour from the oldest part of the city with a walking tour starting at Ashgabat Park. Our professional tour guides will give you an insight of how the city was formed on one of the main streets named Magtymguly – previously known as “Svoboda”, translated from Russian as “freedom”. From the park we take a walk to the Statue of Lenin, the only statue that stood the 1948 earthquake that completely destroyed the city. Continue to the “Russian Bazaar” (now known as “Gulistan”), one of the main bazaars of the city since old times and city’s popular landmark. In this bazaar you can shop for dry fruits, sweetest fruits from the fields of Turkmenistan, melons and watermelons that the country is famous for. Also, here you can find nice souveniers, traditional embroideries and Turkmen carpets. Duration of the walking tour – 2 hours.
Hotel check-in at 12 noon.
After lunch at local restaurant we will explore the modern part of the city. Sightseeing will include the “Bagt Koshgi” (the Wedding Palace) hill platform with a panoramic view of the city, the Monument of Neutrality, the Park of Independence and its monument, and the monument to the Book of Ruhnama (translated as “the book of soul”, written by the first president of Turkmenistan). And we end the tour visiting “Ertogrul Ghazi Mosque”- reminiscent of Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. The mosque was built as a gift to the Turkmen people from Turkish government in honor of a Turkmen leader Ertogrul Ghazi, the father of Osman 1, the founder of Ottoman Empire.
And we end the tour with a farewell DINNER at one of the best restaurants of the city with a fantastic panoramic view of the city at night.
Transfer to the hotel to rest.
Day 6: Departure
After midnight transfer to Ashgabat International Airport for departure. End of services.
